Granite.

Granite is an igneous rock that solidified slowly deep within the earth’s crust. It consists mainly of quartz, feldspar and mica, which gives it its characteristic grain and speckled pattern.

Granite is extremely hard and withstands heat, scratches and frost — an obvious choice both in the kitchen and outdoors. The surface can be polished, honed, flamed or brushed.
