Alabaster is a fine-grained, soft stone, usually gypsum or calcite, used for sculptures and lamps since antiquity. It has an even, milky tone and transmits light softly and warmly.
Because alabaster is soft, it is mainly used indoors in wall panels, lighting, interior details and furniture rather than on surfaces exposed to heavy wear.
